Rising Above: The Remarkable Journey of Jcorey Williams
The road from setback to success isn't always a straight line. JCorey Williams journey proves that sometimes the most winding paths lead to the most extraordinary destinations.
During our vibrant Vegan Cookout episode, JCorey opens up about losing his band scholarship after failing graduation exams – a crushing blow that temporarily derailed his dreams. His candid revelation about once mocking students who had to retake tests, only to become one himself, showcases the humility that would later define his leadership style. The turning point? A judge who saw potential in him offered to drop charges if he earned his GED, sparking a remarkable educational comeback.
JCorey doesn't sugarcoat his struggles. He admits to initially flunking out of college with straight Fs while pursuing his DJ career, believing fame made education unnecessary. After a year of soul-searching and encouragement from an unlikely mentor – his Wendy's manager – he returned to school with renewed purpose. His transformation was extraordinary: from failed student to campus leader, working in public relations, becoming a student recruiter, SGA representative, the first campus DJ, and eventually homecoming king.
Today, as president of GoDJs Global, JCorey oversees 250 DJs, coordinates events, and runs marketing campaigns for major brands. His influence extends across 12 radio stations, and he's even ventured into acting. What makes his accomplishments even more impressive is that he's achieved them with just an associate's degree, defying the typical educational requirements for executive positions. Coming from a single-parent household without ever meeting his father and with no family connections in entertainment, his success story is entirely self-made.
Beyond his personal achievements, JCorey's primary mission has become creating opportunities for others. "I'm not trying to take advantage of nobody," he emphasizes. "I just want to put right people in the right positions so we all can win." Follow his continuing journey on all social media @GoDJJCoreyLamar and witness firsthand how determination, faith, and hard work can transform any life, regardless of where it begins.

I'm not trying to take advantage of nobody. I just want to put right people in the right positions.
Speaker 2:So we all can win. Welcome back to another episode of Experiencing Amazing Transformations. Today we are at the Beacon Cookout y'all. We are having a phenomenal time out here. Y'all hear the music, we are having a good time and right now I have a very special guest with me. He is here to just tell us a little bit about himself and what he does and how he impacts the community.
Speaker 1:Yes, so I am Ja'Cory Williams. In the entertainment world I go by Go DJ, j Cole, lamar, go DJ, yeah, so just a little bit about myself in a nutshell. I have been serving as the president of Go DJs Global since 2021. So we are basically a marketing and promotional company. I oversee 250 DJs. We set up different events as well. I land marketing and promotional campaigns which help companies spread their brand as well as help them generate income. Now I DJ on 12 different radio stations. Wow, I am a marketing director for Katrina Walker. She has a stage play. She brought it to Street Bowl, louisiana and I was able to act in it as well. So I act a little bit now. I first got into acting and my church my name is missionary back to church in Greenwood. That was my, my first play. I was in, so, um, pretty much like I say this a jack-of-all-trades. I started from the bottom of the company and worked my way all the way up.
Speaker 2:You know so well there's a little bit about myself that was awesome. That's a lot. You do a lot. Yeah, you help and impact a lot of people. How does that make you feel like? What made you get into this world, like the marketing world, making sure people get on different platforms? What made you get into DJing?
Speaker 1:and I got lots of questions, but but I like to tell people though, honestly, the journey really started wholeheartedly. I had a band scholarship to Grand Valley State University. I marched in Woodland Marching Band. I ended up losing my band scholarship due to the fact that I didn't pass the graduation exam. I passed math, I passed English. I couldn't get over that hurdle to pass that science and social studies. I really gave up.
Speaker 1:So I was that kid in school to where, like, if I see somebody who's supposed to graduate, they coming back to take the test, I kind of laugh at them, right. So I was that kid. So when everything changed and I was that person who's supposed to graduate gotta come back to the school having to take the test, right, I just felt the type of way about that. And then I was still coming to take a test without doing anything new and I kind of I'm gonna say I kind of I did right, I did give up on on school. I gave up on the whole GED thing and with my journey, with still pursuing this entertainment thing, I still go off the gremlin. A lot of my guys that was in bed was going to gremlin. They hit me up like, hey, bro, you can come out here, you need to get your GED right and but I was still executing and pursuing it, networking with with DJs right. So I remember I got locked up on a petty little charge drug paraphernalia.
Speaker 1:I went to court. My mama came to court with me. The judge told me that I looked like a good kid and if I get my GED, I dropped my charge. I went and got my GED. I enrolled at Boulder Parish Community College. I enrolled in. I was taking up business. At mid I flunked out my first year with All Fs. Just to let y'all know, all Fs How'd you do that.
Speaker 1:I did that because how I did that was okay. At that time I was a Bebe kid. I was handling promotion for Bebe right, and I was still a mean celebrity promotion for Bebe right, and I was still me celebrity. So in my mind it was I'm already old, I'm already famous, it's so good, I don't need school for real. For real, and I dropped the ball like I went, I do my work and then I just come back for my finals. But still, at that time I had bad habits. So instead of studying, I'm hanging with friends, I'm on the block just chilling. It got to the point to where I'm coming to class and I'm like, damn, we got a test today. So I was that bad with school. So at that moment I stayed out of college for a year.
Speaker 1:I got real serious. I started reading business books. I was working at Wendy's. I had my manager tell me hey, you're too bright, you need to go back to school. Yes, I'm born and built you fucking out, and I was looking to go back, made that tweet. Probably about two to three hours later the Chancellor contacted me on Twitter like hey, oh, before you enroll, I want to have a meeting with you. We had a meeting with the Chancellor at the time. We had a great conversation. That conversation went to I want you to work for me, and it went. It went from there. Hey, I want to. I want you to work for me, and it went, it went from there. Hey, I want to work for you. They want me to work for me. Ask me why I wanted to actually get my my degree. Because he said that you can be successful without having a degree and I just simply said that I know my degree will will open up more doors, open up more doors for me. And it went from there.
Speaker 1:So I, like I say I went to college my first year. I flunked out all F's. I came back. But when I came back I was real determined. I got involved. I tell any student to get involved. I worked in public relations, did that for a year, got transferred over to student life for a year.
Speaker 1:After that I still wanted to do it. I became a student recruiter. I still wanted to do it. I. I became a student recruiter. I still wanted to do it. I became a representative for SGA. So that was amazing.
Speaker 1:After that I became the first campus DJ at Boise Parish Community College. From there, I just kept working. I became the 2019 homecoming king as well at Boise Parish Community College. So I was just able to do a lot. But I just came back.
Speaker 1:I was more focused, I knew why I needed my degree, I knew how I was going to use my degree and I just thank God that I'm here today. Everything I'm doing now is just extra. I just wanted to be a go DJ and now just to be operating and running a company for real with an associate's degree. So I do know most people that's a CEO of a company or a president of a company. Nine times out of 10, you're gonna have to have a master's degree. Sometimes you might have to have a PhD, but I'm thankful to where I have an associate's degree president of a company, helping the company generate income.
Speaker 1:So it's about get out here. If you got a dream for real, I just tell anybody. If I can do it, you can too. I know better than anybody across the board. I never met my dad. I'm 33 years old. I come from a single parent household. Nobody in my family does anything at all with entertainment. So I'm a firm believer that if you have a dream and you put the work in and you believe in the higher power, you believe in God and you got faith to execute and put the work in that you can and you will be successful, and that's my message for y'all today.
Speaker 2:Yes, that was beautiful. I appreciate it. That was a journey, that was a story and you're still on it. I'm still going.
Speaker 1:I feel like I'm just getting started. Yeah, I'm a partner now, with 3.5 thousand miles, just on 7611 Pine Road. So now, like everything I've been working on, working so hard for I've been on the journey for 15 years it's now coming into fruition, everything coming together, and I love it. So when I said I'm a jackal, I forgot to say I'm a videographer as well at my church. So sometimes I be in front of the camera, sometimes I be behind the camera, sometimes I'm the DJ, sometimes I'm the business manager sitting there, sometimes I'm the DJ, sometimes I'm the business manager. But my ultimate thing is that I just want to create jobs, create experiences, take care of my clients and everybody involved with their journey and their process, just making sure everybody gets paid, and that's just what it is. So I'm not trying to take advantage of nobody.
Speaker 2:I want to put right people in the right positions so we all can. We all can win. I love that. How can we find you? What are your handles?
Speaker 1:um, everything is at no, dj Jake. All of us on that's on Facebook, that's on TikTok, that's on IG. Snapchat is GoHustlerJCorey, but basically all my social media platforms is at GoDJJCoreyLamar.
Speaker 2:There you have it, guys. Make sure you guys follow him. See all that he's doing. Reach out to him If you need any type of help. This is your guy. All right, he's here. He has a serving heart. Y'all. Thank y'all so much. We'll catch y'all next time. Bye.
